Summers are upon us! Are you looking to brew a fresh batch of iced teas to beat the heat? Then look no further. Here are 3 of our all time best in-house iced tea recipes with loose-leaf teas.

Summers are here and so is the sweet smell of fresh-cut grass, fireworks by the lake, evening barbecues and the much-awaited picnics! But there is one beverage that binds all of these delightful emotions together. A glass of chilled, freshly-made Ice Tea

Ice tea has always been at the centre of our adoration for chilled beverages! Tall glasses filled to the brim with natural goodness, a dash of sweetness, and oodles of ice - that’s something all of us can relate to! From being a significant part of Southern America’s hospitality, to black unsweetened iced tea served all over the country. Iced teas have taken over in most of the restaurants, food stalls, bars, and now sold in bottles.

THE EVOLUTION OF ICED TEAS

First mentioned in the 1790s, the first mention of Iced teas from the state of South Carolina where ‘punches’ were made using ice tea mixed with copious amounts of one’s preferred alcohol. Then in the famed year 1879, a standardized recipe was printed which majorly contributed to the beverage’s reputation. According to this traditional recipe, iced tea was made with green tea leaves which was steeped for a couple of hours and was then poured over ice, with spoonfuls of sugar.

In the year 1904, the then Commissioner of Tea in India, Richard Blechynden, who was displaying tea at the World’s Fair in St. Louis decided to make a cold brew of the black tea that he wanted to originally serve as a hot beverage. The crowd loved the iced black tea and from here, a lot of cafes and restaurants picked up on the recipe and America became the undisputed land of iced teas!

This opened a world of possibilities for iced tea brews. Gone were the days when iced tea could only be made using Green Tea! An increasing number of iced tea enthusiasts took to curating varied recipes using a variety of teas like Black teas, Herbal Teas, Oolong Teas etc. combining an assortment of fruits and sweeteners. Now people turn to a glass of chilled iced tea to beat the heat or to add a deeply refreshing note to the day.
